In the Cellar Announces New “Valentine’s Heart of the Movement Award” Honoring Credit Union Leaders Who Ignite Generosity and Community Impact
In the Cellar’s third annual event will take place at Harley Davidson’s Museum in Milwaukee, WI, Friday, September 12, 2025
In the Cellar, the annual signature event benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, is proud to announce the creation of the Valentine’s Heart of the Movement Award, a new honor recognizing credit union leaders whose generosity, leadership, and commitment to the movement have created lasting impact.
The award is named in tribute to Mike Valentine, President & CEO of BCU and a 2025 Herb Wegner Memorial Award recipient, whose unwavering belief in In the Cellar helped launch its success. From the event’s earliest days, Valentine championed its mission, offering encouragement, resources, and personal commitment when others doubted it could be done.
“In the credit union movement, some leaders don’t just participate. They ignite transformative lasting impact,” said Tansley Stearns, Board Chair of In the Cellar. “Mike Valentine’s giving heart, dedication to developing leaders, and investment in communities create a ripple effect felt across the country. It is only fitting that this award, which will be presented annually, begins with him.”
“Receiving the first Valentine’s Heart of the Movement Award is incredibly humbling,” said Mike Valentine. “The credit union movement has always been about people helping people, and I’m lucky to be part of it—to see what’s possible when leaders show up with generosity, belief, and heart. Having my name associated with this award is an honor, but even more than that, I hope it inspires others to lead with purpose and unity. One idea, one spark, one step forward—these are the things that create exponential impact when we move together. That’s the magic of credit unions.”
The inaugural Valentine’s Heart of the Movement Award will be presented to Valentine during the In the Cellar gala on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Harley-Davidson Museum in Milwaukee. The evening will feature the heart of credit unions as leaders share inspiring storytelling in support of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and their mental health initiatives.
Going forward, the Valentine’s Heart of the Movement Award will honor one individual each year whose actions embody the cooperative spirit and whose generosity uplifts the movement and the people it serves. In 2026, Mike Valentine will lead the selection committee.
