Oklahoma’s Credit Union Appoints Luann Schmiedel As President/CEO

Luann Schmiedel has been appointed the new president/chief executive officer of Oklahoma’s Credit Union. Schmiedel will succeed Mark Kelly, who retired after 40 years at OKCU.

Schmiedel’s tenure at OKCU spans more than three decades, starting as the marketing director in 1986 and rising through the ranks to her previous position as executive vice president in 2006.

Nick Coleman, Director or Programs at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, says: “We are thrilled to continue working closely with Luann and the Oklahoma’s Credit Union team to raise meaningful funds for children’s hospitals in Oklahoma. They have been a proud and important partner of CMN Hospitals and Credit Unions for Kids for years.”

Luann has always been a champion for the credit union community. In 1986, she helped established the Oklahoma Credit Union Political Action Committee (OCUPAC), and served as president of the Oklahoma Credit Union Executives Society in 1998. Schmiedel has been influential in implementing programs that better serve Oklahomans. She spearheaded the creation of First Rate Title and First Rate Autos. She currently serves as a committee member for the ATM Zone and is a board member for Credit Union Service Centers.

Schmiedel’s impact reaches beyond the walls of the credit union. Schmiedel is actively involved in the local community, and she was a founding committee member for the Global Woman’s Leadership Society.

“Anyone who has worked with Luann understands she has been a driving force in our credit union for the last three and a half decades,” Philip Sherwin, Sr. Vice President/Chief Technology Officer said. “Luann’s emphasis on growing the credit union and leveraging technology has taken us to places we didn’t think possible, and I’m excited for what’s to come under her continued leadership.”

In her time at OKCU, the credit union’s assets have increased from $20 million to more than $650 million, and the membership has grown from less than 10,000 members to more than 47,000.
