Wyatt the Warrior

Editor’s note: This post is adapted from an article shared in a Georgia Credit Union Affiliates publication

What started out as bad headache for 6-year-old Wyatt Garab quickly turned into vomiting, fatigue and a complete loss of function on the left side of his body.

ER doctors put Wyatt into a medically induced coma, and he was life-flighted to James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. The diagnosis: a brain aneurysm.

After multiple surgeries and even a scary stint in the PICU where he was placed on life support, Wyatt is now flourishing. Wyatt shows little evidence of his battle, with just a brace on his left leg and a barely noticeable scar on his head. Today, is he is an ambassador for children’s hospitals across Eastern North Carolina.

Wyatt’s grandpa, Chris Cole, an employee at Atlanta Postal Credit Union in Rome, GA.

“His recovery has been nothing short of a miracle,” Chris said. “We have been told by his doctors and nurses that he is one in a billion, and that he has made one of the most miraculous recoveries they have ever seen.”

Wyatt is one of 10 million kids treated annually at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Funds raised through Credit Unions for Kids directly benefit help kids like Wyatt get the care they need to lead healthy and active lives.
